I was a student of Rand and also I knew Murray Rothbard, the founder of modern libertarianism. They were antagonistic to each other personally. So that was my intellectual roots as being a libertarian. And back then the libertarian movement was, if you use the word libertarian back then it usually meant socialist anarchist type thing. You know, the coconuts of the world back in the 1800s. But it was Rothbard who changed it and made the word libertarian now, which is a common household word people associated with free markets.
