The Social Sciences' Critical Criticism of American Politics
There's a lot of similarity up to the 1960s, I would say, in that the critiques remain at this very, very high level of generality. They're very rarely attached to specific political programs except by this new right which has a kind of oppositional vision. On the other side, it's remarkable how many supporters of something like the welfare states are still extremely critical of what we've been doing.
