The web was created in 1989 with this vision of a decentralized and open network of information where users were in control. Over the next couple decades, as those platforms reached scale, consumers migrated from open services to more sophisticated and centralized ones. And it's definitely still a problem we see today: Apple taking a 30% cut of all revenues from apps on the app store.
