The Gaps in India's Drug Regulation Mechanism

Prishanth: The primary problem is governance in India is just bad. He says every state has its own drug regulator, which really complicates issues. When he detects that a lot of the drugs are substandard or not of standard quality, only thing he can do is initiate a criminal prosecution against those companies. But when he does criminally prosecute these companies, the courts are generally very, very lenient. They have larger problems with the political economy of the pharma industry and how it's regulated.
