The Negativity Bias

The fear of that one negative holds a lot of weight in many ways, not just on our own behaviour, but also in how people think of us. Even with hundreds or thousands of experiences in the positive column, a single negative can combat them all and taint the entire experience. We tend to have longer memories for these negative items than the positive ones,. The second aspect is of steeper negative gradients. In essence, this says that as we get closer to a negative event, it's felt more and more at an intensity that is more than positive.
