The Co-Tirants of Athens

Co-tirants built the first aqueduct in Athens, opening a reliable water supply to sustain such a booming population. They also dedicated an altar of the twelve gods in the Agora, from which all distances from Athens were marked. Their patronage of poetry attracted the most eminent poets of the day and they improved communications throughout Attica.
