The Importance of Scale in the Iron Age

One of the big shifts in this period seems to be scale, right? That even if you have long distance connections in prior periods, they're relatively small scale phenomena. But in the iron age, the density of those connections and the amount of stuff that's moving along those networks is just dramatically increased. People also realize that by collaborating together, for example, by going and living in a city, there is a strength in numbers.
