I don't think we've taken seriously enough the fact that an event like January 6th should have shaken us out of our collective stupor, but it didn't. I think we just kept rocket-enrollin. And one of our two parties has just completely excused it. That's what worries me. The Republican Party establishment appears not to have learned any lessons. They have ridden this tiger of culture war and racial resentment for decades. And it became real on January 6th. It became real when people were brandishing rifles and state capitals. And they were unmoved by it.
