The Importance of Originalism in a Supreme Court Decision

Supreme Court overturned a death sentence that had been imposed on a man who committed a crime when he was under the age of 18. Justice Iskalia and Thomas disagreed with this, arguing basically that it failed to meet their originalist expectations. Their reason given was that at the time that the Eighth Amendment was ratified, execution of minors was not seen as cruel or unusual.
