The House of Representatives Decided the Presidential Election

On December 9, 1824, the House of Representatives decided the presidential election. Henry Clay took the opportunity to show off his oratory by delivering the keynote speech. Fanny and Camilla did not join them for this leg of the tour. As a committed abolitionist, Fanny found the endless soliloquies to liberty sung by a bunch of slave owners a bit much.
