When the money itself was more predictable and people knew what's the purchasing power of the dollar going to be 50 years from now, then long-term bonds made more sense. Whereas now, yeah, it'd be nuts to lend money to the government for 50 years because who knows what the heck that's going to buy when they pay you back. Right. You can't get a 30-year mortgage in Mexico, in Mexican pesos, who knows what they're going to be worth even 30 years from now.
