The dandy and entrepreneur are two sides of the same coin. Reading is a form of self-creation as i suppose but more than that is an openness to being made by the kind of vast collective wisdom of the world around us. The image of the dandy is an aesthetic self-creator um who whose whole kind of shtick is the idea that he is the sole author of his own selfhood. We have turned ourselves into icons or individuals in part because we have you know red books and cultivated a certain taste, says John Sutter.
