The Community Is Not Heaven or Hell, but Planted Firmly on Earth
In the new testament, there are two dominant metaphors for what it means to be the people of god. One is that you are an apprentice, a disciple, or a follower of jesus the rabbi. And the other is that you that we are adelphos - which means sibline, brother sister. We're family, and god is our father, and we have become family. You can't separate your discipleship to jesus from involvement in a community because the two go together.
