CHAPTER

How to Host Schoolons

I always found hosting schoolons to be such a kind of wonderful, magical experience. In some ways it's very different from hosting in person because sometimes it's just, you're just seeing the different faces pop up on Zoom and you're not really sure. It's a lot more of a sudden thing than having someone walk into the room  and you can feel their energy enter the space. I think especially when it comes to like personal, more personal topics like with career transitions there's a lot of vulnerability being brought to that.

And then to also see the

struggles that other people are going through together, it'll
Speaker 2
be a new experience for me and it'll be a, I'm sure that'll have its own challenges but feels like I'm approaching it and kind of like a how to create a gathering space kind
Speaker 4
of like
Speaker 2
a surrounding around the fire of like, oh, what is this experience that we're going through and how I

can help people, but I'm

hoping

that
Speaker 2
we will co-create something of support for one other and one big thing is like you're not alone going through
Speaker 4
this experience

and there are tools and there is support available out there and you'll get through it. Oftentimes the most challenging thing is like this will never end. It's like, oh no, it will end. The slow process and even having the mindset shift of like, oh, this is the way it's going to be forever. It's like, oh, there's actually

something else possible.
Speaker 1
Yeah, I'd love to hear that. I always found hosting schoolons to be such a kind of wonderful, magical experience. In some ways it's very different from hosting in person because sometimes it's just, you're just seeing the different faces pop up on Zoom and you're not really sure. It's a lot more of a sudden thing than having someone walk into the room and you can kind of feel, I don't typically use such a woo-woo language, but you can feel their energy kind of enter the space and it's just such a different thing. But yeah, hosting is I think a lot of fun and I think especially when it comes to like personal, more personal topics like with coaching with career transitions in which there's a lot of vulnerability and a lot of personal aspects being brought to that. Having it be almost like a confessional space and the way that I would think that's different is like with a one-on-one coaching session, which I've done on both sides. There's much more of like, you're working through a problem together and there's this back and forth that you uncover the layers of the onion to maybe like get to this kind of insight. Whereas I feel like in a group you might take turns sharing kind of similar things at similar levels of abstraction. And so you're not digging as deep into a specific person's set of issues, but as you kind of hear all these different slices of life from different people, I think that sense of camaraderie, that sense of belonging and togetherness is its own like very, very I think meaningful different sense of empowerment and kind of insight. That's right.
Speaker 2
That's right.
