Gaslighting: A Form of Epistemic Injustice

The term gaslighting originally appeared in the context of women trapped in abusive relationships with men as in the case of gaslight. In the 1940s, and what we know about the history of psychology through the 19th century and early 20th century was a very real danger for women. The definition of gaslighting doesn't inherently pertain to the oppression of women by men. It captures those acts of violence or injustice that harm somebody not so much physically or even emotionally but rather in their capacity as knowers.
