Don't act when you're angry, even though that'll feel like that's the time to do it. Once you calm down, it's easy then to want to avoid the conversation because you'll feel better. It's this balance beam that we have to walk on to say, I felt that for a reason. You're not going to create all those defense mechanisms. If you want to create more harmony, start with that intention and actually voice that intention.
