The olympic and the titanic were built side by side in adjacent slipways in the belfast ship yard. In many popular retellings of the titanic story, much is made about the speed at which the titanic was traveling. Put simply, the olympic class of ships were built for comfort. They were not built to be faster than the mauritania and the lusitania. The top speed of the olympIC, which stayed in service for decades, was roughly 23 knots.
