When I first moved out to LA there was a theater company that would do these nights called Tuesdays at 9 where it was at a bar is at St. Nick's Pub and writers would bring in like ten pages of whatever they were working on and actors would come and cold read the pages. So one night while bartending this guy asked me, "What do you do?" And I just told them the story of this crazy thing that had happened to my neighbor so he took me out and we pitched it around town and no one ended up buying it but it really got me going oh wait this is a story" He then wrote his first screenplay which wasn't even written by him
