The Effects of the 1918 Flu on Young Healthy People
The 1918 flu disproportionately impacted people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. It dropped the average life expectancy in the US by 12 full years. There's a very dramatic eyewitness account of the carnage that influenza caused. A prominent physician at the time called Victor Vaughn described it as 'the destruction of human life'
