CHAPTER

The Origins of Tomatoes

Tomatoes are native to the Andes Mountains in South America. The word tomato comes from the Nahuatl language and the Nahuas developed a wide range of dishes incorporating this fruit. Chikantika Masala has a lot of contradictory origin stories, but was popularized by chefs from India living in the UK.
