The Problem With Mental Health Policy

Mental health policy used to be conducted really, really badly rather than that nothing should be included within the remit of medicine. We don't treat people with lobotomies and forced electric shock treatment anymore. So we can take a public health approach which doesn't automatically assume that bypassing people's agency is the only way of treating these things. There might never be a world in which we don't need that lost resort but we might be able to reduce the number of people who need it.
