Not to mention if he was like surrounded by decaying bodies and other prisoners. We do know that bugs were a problem. They were on the survivors. Where you are mosquitoes will get you. Unless that guy invented a cure for mosquitoes unless he gets to deploy that. But that's a different story altogether.
