Xenophon says the Persians sent an embassy to Tisaphronius. They told him a story about Clearkis being caught purgering himself, betraying his oaths. The Greeks are not happy with this and accuse Ariaeus of treachery. Xenophon: "Did you not see this coming? And that's where the narrative stops off itself"
