The Power of Stories

A lot of fairy tales is about inversion, a wish fulfilment inversion. The real locus of power is definitely with the male of the household and the king. Helping people write their own fairy tales or their own life story that isn't shackles to the fairy tales of the past can be really helpful. It's finding that new language. So, I don't particularly like the word stepmother because there's always that unspoken wicked in the room. But those narratives are really part of the therapeutic process. Getting to grips with the story of Cinderella really can help somebody who is struggling with their family relationship.
