The Last Crusade of the Byzantines

Rumours had been circulating in the West that the Byzantines had formed an alliance with Saladin himself. The rumours were inflamed when Saladin actually captured Jerusalem and handed over control of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to the local Orthodox clergy. This seemed to confirm the worst suspicions of the Latins, who soon wrote home to warn their fellow Latins not to trust the Romans.
