Are We Really in Control of the World?
The title of my book, A Beautiful Endings, seeks to emphasize that in the traditions I'm looking at, the apocalypse was not Armageddon or only the tribulations or catastrophic. It was an overcoming of suffering of death, of tragedy, and humans long for that kind of overcoming. And so they were hoping for the end to come. If things are going well, then probably there's less intense thinking about the end. One is less likely to focus on that when a society is going through particularly difficult and challenging period.
