We've distanced ourselves from an impulse, projected it onto someone else and then we can disavow having had it. It's both a negative and positive reinforcement to kind of stay within a certain parameter of the culture. This is something that you were also mentioning in the political sphere because Chardon Freud is evident in group dynamics. When we feel the competing team has somehow messed up, has done something silly, where there's an opportunity to really get them, that kind of gotcha feeling creates an enormous amount of delight for those watching.
