How to Find Dry, Hot Rock Formations for Geothermal Energy

Not all rock that's full of oil is quite hard to find. In some places like Iceland and Indonesia, there are plentiful rock deposits not too far below the surface where very hot dry rock can be found. The shale oil revolution was made possible by the commercialization of horizontal drilling technology for doing exactly that. For geothermal energy, the whole idea is to avoid porous rock containing oil and aim for dry, hot rock formations instead.
