The Transformer Based Revolution in Language Models
I feel like it's extremely unlikely that there won't be another breakthrough that will be equally transformative. We don't yet know what the potentialities of something with the micro structure of a neural network will turn out to be from an architectural point of view. It could potentially teach us something about how our own minds work. If it's another sort of subtle change in that architecture is simple in some ways as the transformer is it would therefore be something that might well be implemented in brains right now.
