The Life of a Midshipman

At the age of 13, horatio was ted to serve as a midshipman under uncle maurice suckling. Midshipmen studied academic aspects of navy life and supervised or took part in almost every task that went on aboard a warship. During his apprenticeship, nel served with men whose names you might recognize including george vancouver who would later become the first englishman to map the northern pacific coast of north america. We don't know much about nelson's childhood but judging by what we do know it is obvious this was a formative time for him.
