Aaron Burr and the War on the Subean River

Wilkinson received a coded message supposedly from Burr, in which Burr stated that he had between 500 and 1,000 men ready to move. Wilkinson doctored the letter, so as not to implicate himself, then sent it on to the president, warning him of Burr's plot. Having pushed Burr to arms length, Wilkinson had no desire for war anymore. Within a few months, Burr would be in jail, facing charges of treason.
