China gets between 40 and 50% of its crude oil imports from the Gulf. China's Belt and Road Initiative lines up very, very neatly with what Gulf countries need. They don't want to have to deal with a region that's constantly on the precipice of conflict. Working closely with a country like Saudi can help them when they're dealing with certain domestic pressures with their Muslim population.
