In the netherlands, a mother can ask her two-year-old if she should change his nappy. This would never happen in a society of large power distance. The us also has a small power distance, forty on a scale of 100 - which puts it among the lowest in the world. We don't like people telling us what to do and this chafes us when we get ordered around. To that end, the digital revolution is further shrinking the distance to power.
