How Did You Study the Muhtaars?
The book is not just a historical study it's actually you were there on the ground observing basically shadowing the work of various Muhtaars in various locations mainly in Istanbul but elsewhere as well. So could you just talk about that and how did you ingratiate yourself into their world essentially? And I wonder also how much suspicion did you around this outsider poking around this pretty obscure administrative aspect of contemporary Turkish lifeDid anybody question you and what your motives were or just talk about the whole research process basically.
