The History of the CUP

In 1908, the Young Turks won a majority in parliament. They forced Sultan Abdulhamid to abdicate and replaced him with his brother Mehmed V. But they tried to shore up loyalty by showing clear preference to Turks. The empire was then left vulnerable to enemies who seized control of its territories. Germany saw the possibility of gaining power through partnership between Ottomans and Germans.
