Melonorma gabler is one of the pioneers in textbook censorship. She and her husband decided that what they were seeing in their child's textbook did not match to what they expected him to be learning at school. They started voicing their concerns and that spurred a much larger movement. The couple had no education background, but felt this was an avenue through which to preserve American values.
