Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

The zygote, the thing that is, happens immediately after the sperm fertilizes the egg. Induced pluripotent stem cells are pretty incredible because it means you have an essentially unlimited source of stem cells without the ethical issues of using a stem cell from an embryo. They also have the advantage that they can be patient specific. So if you want to study a specific disease, say heart disease, you can take a cell from an adult skin cell for a patient with that disease and turn it back into a stem cell.
