Shelley was using thi story as a warning to those seeking technological and economic progress at the expense of the environment. Yet, wilderness and industry and technology play very strong themes here. I think there is a good analogy there with fossil fuels. You know, it's undeniable that coal and oil have provided... energy that really helped improve the lives of billions of people for over a century. But at the same time, yo now undeniable, the burning of fossil fuels has heated the planet,. all around the world now and for centuries to come.
