For a long time there were buddhist nuns, but not for the last thousand years. Only in the last decade or so have these ordinations begun to take place again. In this particular ordination it was one of the first becuniorda s in the tervade from southeast asia. And a big celebration and it was absolutely beautiful. It was also somewhat radical in its own ay.
