The Threat of Cultural Wars

I think it's quite interesting to see how they've evolved over the past let's say decades when it started like in roughly 2014 2015. That back then most of these people like influencers, journalists, politicians and so on would never claim that it's about them. They still are a little bit reluctant to be open about racism. But we all know that this is the real idea here. I don't know if there's a similar way to paraphrated in English in German and we say they like always put the toe into the water. Like they're testing how far they can go and they keep on going forward with their speech.
