Why Do You Write?

I've always been working in a sense of getting a paycheck. I'm not from a background where people had trust funds and just had nothing to do at all. So I associate working and being involved with life in a very positive way. When I go to New York, I take the New Jersey Transit train to New York and I walk down from Penn Station to West 10th Street. That's once a week. And then I meet somebody afterward maybe and have dinner within my editor or Amy Tan, who's a writer who lives in New York part of the time. It kind of questions hard to answer.
