Lennon and the Zimera Conference

Those who truly opposed the war gathered in zimmerwald, switzerland in september 19 15 to either outright claim the mantle of the ond international or at least create something new from its ashes. There were only 38 attendes, including all the russians i just mentioned, plus trotsky, representing a russian group in paris. Lennon was personally disgusted that many of the people there were opposed to the war on purely pacifistic and moral grounds. He believed the pacifists would help the bourgeoisie nip the revolutionary movement in the bud if in exchange they stopped the conflict. This was a deal that lennon himself would not stomach.
