Heart Surgery

The death rates for heart surgery started relatively recently. It didn't exist until about the mid 1960s and it wasn't possible until the mid 1950s. There was a taboo on touching the heart, which is why you couldn't fix it without killing the patient. But surgeons always were tempted by the heart because it's a pump. And everything in the heart that used to be unsuccessfully treated with tablets is now very successfully treated with plumbing.
