Machine Consciousness

The more closely you tie consciousness to life, the more distinct it becomes from intelligence. We can't directly experience what it's like to bhe in octopus, but we can begin to understand it from a third person's perspective. The idea that if you program a computer in the right way and it's sufficiently powerful, it will become conscious is very current at the moment. But i don't buy into this kind of inevitability at all. And by functionalism here, i mean the idea that consciousness is substraiht independent,. It doesn't matter what a system is made out of, it matters what it does.
