Introduction
US News and World Report is the gold standard of college and university rankings. A number of big name schools, first Yale, then Harvard, most recently the University of California have dropped out of the rankings. The arguments that are given are all sorts of things ranging from the claim that the rankings are biased against programs that try to increase socioeconomic diversity.
