The Rise of the Cost of Healthcare
The mortality rate in this country is down roughly 60% over the past hundred years. If today, Americans died at the same rate that Americans died 100 years ago, 4.4 million more Americans would die each year than die currently. In 1900, pneumonia or influenza, tuberculosis and gastrointestinal infections were the three leading causes of death in the U.S. Now those top three killers don't even show up in the top 10 now.
