The New World of Liquid Hydrogen
The 1,250 cubic metres of hydrogen carried by the Suiso Frontier contained just 0.2% of the energy content of a single large LNG carrier. Kawasaki Heavy Industries claims it has already lined up the first order for a much larger 160,000 cubic metre carrier from Nippon Kijikio-Kai. Hydrogen's energy density is a quarter that of jet fuel and only 40% that of LNG. A liquid hydrogen carrier will inevitably be more expensive than an L gas carrier.
