The Advantages and Disadvantages of a One Step Test
There's in fact a continuous relationship between maternal glucose values and the risks for adverse outcomes related to hyperglycemia during pregnancy. There are two broad approaches, one step testing and two steps screening. The American Diabetes Association endorses either approach. But it remains a point of much controversy because there are impacts to even sort of less overt gestational diabetes that is picked up with the one step screen.
