The Electron Screening of Metal Atoms for DD Fusion
Deuterium gas nestles in vacancies, open areas within a lattice of metal atoms. The electrons are negative charge and make the other positive charged particle on the other side look neutral to itself. This reduces that repel repelling action that it wants to take with two positive charges. It turns out the electron screening gives you the equivalent of up to 4,000 electron volts of equivalent energy - 44 million degrees.
