Epicurus says no pleasure is a bad thing in itself, but the things which produce certain pleasures entail disturbances many times greater the pleasures themselves. He thought people wrongly believed that once they've reached this tranquillity, this static pleasure, that by treating themselves to a canetic pleasure, that will increase their level of happiness.
